Quora Question:
Q: Do you believe in truths allegedly known through mystical experiences? Consider, for instance, “near death experiences” and premonitions.
Since I had an NDE, then yes. I do believe in what I learned during my near-death experience. Not just because I had the experience and “learned” these philosophies, but because I’ve spoken with others who’ve had similar experiences. In almost every case there was a major shift in their philosophy and outlook on life. And most of the lessons and concepts that they got during their experiences were so similar to my own that any doubts I had were wiped out.
What you have to ask yourself is how so many of us can come away with the same or similar ideas, philosophies, and beliefs?
We didn’t all just read these ideas and decide they were right (some may have, but I doubt all of us did). I asked, and some people didn’t read books at all, others didn’t read the same books as me or the others I spoke with, and many of them had been devout in whatever religion they practiced. However, now half of them had doubts about religion in general and their own specifically or had dropped religion completely, while others became even more devout.
Also, during my research to help myself come to terms with what happened, I found that these shifts in philosophy also occurred back in Ancient times when someone had a death-like experience. Native American and Australian writings also contain similar stories. So, this isn’t something confined to recent 20th and 21st century occurrences. These are events and shifts of awareness that have been happening for 100’s of years. I hope that helps you.
